CMA Full Form :
The full form of CMA is Certified Management Accountant. The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), formerly known as the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI), is responsible for conducting the CMA examinations in the country. Established to promote and regulate the cost and management accountancy profession, ICMAI offers a structured pathway to becoming a CMA through three main levels of exams:
CMA Exam Eligibility Criteria:
To pursue the CMA course, candidates must fulfill certain eligibility criteria for each level:
CMA Foundation Course:
- A candidate should have passed Class 10 or equivalent from a recognized Board or Institution; Or,
- Passed the Senior Secondary School Examination under the 10+2 scheme of a recognized Board or an Examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto.

- CMA offers exemption from CMA Foundation exam to the following people:

- Any Candidate who has passed the Foundation examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India will be exempted from CMA Foundation Course & vice versa
- Any Candidate who has passed the CA Intermediate Examination conducted by ICAI will be exempted from CMA Foundation Course.
- Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination for direct admission to Intermediate Course are exempted from Foundation Course. ( Read more about it here)
- (It means, If you fall under any one of the three category mentioned above, You may skip the CMA Foundation Exam and write CMA Inter directly.)
- Any Candidate who has Passed Senior Secondary School Examination / Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) and Foundation Course of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India
- Any Candidate who has Passed qualified the Foundation (Entry Level) Part I Examination of Certificate in Accounting Technicians (CAT) Course of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India
- Any student who holds a Degree examination of any recognized University or Pursuing Engineering Course (having completed 2nd year/Semester IV/ equivalent)
- Qualified Engineers or equivalent in any subject other than music, dancing, photography, painting & sculpture and the likes.

How to register for CMA Foundation 2024 & 2025
The CMA Foundation registration process is fully online, making it easy and convenient for aspiring candidates. Here's everything you need to know:
Required Documents for CMA Foundation Registration:
- Recent passport-sized photograph (in digital format)
- Digital copy of your signature
- Scanned copy of your 10th-grade certificate
- Scanned copy of your 12th-grade mark sheet
- A valid ID proof (scanned)
- and you can complete your CMA Foundation registration through the official website www.icmai.in
Passing Criteria for CMA Foundation:
To successfully pass the CMA Foundation exam, students must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum Marks per Subject: 40% in each individual paper.
- Overall Aggregate: 50% across all subjects.
This means that a student must score at least 40 marks in each paper and achieve a total of 200 marks out of 400 across all four papers.
